The British were already having trouble managing a residential area to the east of Appalachia. The surrendered area, known as the Ohio Valley, was marked by the Appalachian Mountains to the east and the Mississippi River to the west.ĭespite the achievement of this vast land, Britain tried to prevent the American colonies from settling there. But the new land also raised many problems. The Treaty of Paris, that marked the completion of the French and Indian Wars, gave Britain much valuable North American land. The royal proclamation of 1763 was very shunned among American invaders because they convinced that they had the right to gain more territory after combatting and winning the war against France. Colonists’ reaction to this policy was that they rejected the king’s decision to limit the expansion of the colonies and viewed it as an act of tyranny.
